John Strain featured on BBC2's Money Watch last night

We would like to thank Money Watch Producer Ian Rose and presenter Libby Potter and the rest of the team for featuring John Strain and his parishioners on their program last night.

They made it quite clear that savers are upset and angry about low interest rates.

But we were disappointed that they didn't get to some of the core issues behind our campaign and why savers are justified in being this angry about how they are treated.

However during the feature financial advisor David Braithewaite did provide a very good explanation of how the £850 Billion in financial support provided by the Government for the banks has been a major contributor to the lack of demand for savers cash and hence the low returns we are getting at the moment.

Disappointingly this was the only mention of how Government action, aside from raising the base rate, can affect savers.

The program can be viewed

John's feature starts 11 mins 30 seconds in.

A brief guide to inflation

Inflation is simply a measure of how prices are increasing. The whole point about inflation is that it reduces the spending power of your savings. So unless the return you are receiving on your savings is above inflation then the spending power of your savings is being reduced.
